Summer Choice Boards

Gifted Summer Choice Boards

Gifted students are still gifted over the summer…

I truly believe that summer time is for exploring, being a child, playing, and resting…but gifted children are still gifted.

Gifted children love to:

  • Explore passions
  • Learn new information
  • Develop curiosities
  • Build background knowledge

And that doesn’t change over the summer. Gifted summer choice boards could be the answer.

As a child, I look back on my summers with two main feelings: either extreme boredom or love for exploring. Summer was amazing when my babysitter, older brother, or parents fostered my curiosities! Exploring new bugs I found, reading new books, learning a new card game…things that developed and fostered my curiosities made my summers amazing.

So how do we support gifted students over the summer?

“I’m bored,” is a quick statement gifted kids make over the summer. They need the time to be kids – but STILL continue to learn and explore.

What could this look like? Trips to local museums. Reading new books at the library. Building an invention. Sparking curiosity in a discoverable way. But this can be exhausting as a parent to keep thinking of new ideas….

In order to support our gifted students who need something more – I created  Gifted Summer Choice Boards. These choice boards are separated by subject: Math, Science, and Reading/Social Studies. Each board has 9 options, many with a QR code to scan and get started.

Activities range from art projects and podcasts to history of potatoes and hundreds of science experiments. Perfect for all ages, kids can explore things that spark their interest in a hands on, exploratory way.
